I completely agree, though, on the other hand, it is extremely amusing that tourist has the power to ping 33 thousand people the second he decides to write a comment. (Apologies to the 517 people I just pinged to make a silly joke — this is literally my dumb ping copypasta but expanded to a ridiculous scale.)

So, that's why people write comments and blogs with alt accounts.

By the way, how does it work exactly? It seems like not every comment gives a ping. mango_lassi wrote 5 comments last night, yet I got 3 notifications.

I was thinking about it some days ago, about writing my own plugin. I think it's pretty cool. But making it optional is a very good idea.

I don't know I should be happy that I haven't been pinged yet or be depressed cause I don't have any friend :(

Having a notification for a blog post written by your friend is okay but having a notification for every single comment your friend makes on codeforces is just annoying. Moreover, the person who is triggering the notification i.e someone like me making a comment on a particular blog might feel like he is getting watched for every single activity he does on codeforces. Though, I do feel that this will stop people from making meaningless comments on blog posts.

I think there should be an additional setting allowing people to watch you which will enable your friends for getting a notification for every single comment/activity you make on codeforces. And then you can have filters in your notification to find the relevant notifications you might be interested in.

But above all, I don't think there is a need to make these kind of changes on codeforces and a roll back to the previous notification implementation would be nice because having so many notifications kind of makes codeforces more like a social networking website which codeforces definitely isn't.
