GomerDoGo's blog

By GomerDoGo, history, 2 months ago, In English

As -is-this-fft- pointed out, the overall usefulness of blogs has been declining. Finding high-quality educational posts is almost impossible now unless you accidentally stumble upon them in a random comment.

I believe the best solution is to create a single, universal blog to serve as a community hub for the best educational materials.

However, it would probably be much better if a higher-rated user created this hub instead of me (rating bias definitely exists here). Would any high-rated user be willing to step up and start this thread (and farm contribution)?

In the meantime, I will get things started by sharing a few interesting blogs in the comments below(btw, you can too)

Are these blogs in the catalog: blog and blog ?

I think the catalog is definitely useful, but there are a lot more cool blogs that are not listed in it.

If we stick to your analogy, our current car has been sitting in a junkyard for a year.

There is literally only 1 post in the catalog that is less than a year old, and I'm pretty sure slightly more than 1 educational blog came out during this time.

still, there's no reason to start from scratch. there are 382 blogs on it right now, a new collection would have to add all of those as well as any new blogs/old blogs missing for one reason or another. there's no reason to start over if adding them is as simple as telling any gm "hey can you add this to catalog pls thanks"

Here are a few things to address about the catalog:

            1. "Catalog" is honestly not a very descriptive name. If I wasn't bored one day and noticed a new button I wouldn't have discovered it. "Learn" might be a slightly better name, also "Resources".

            2. No difficulty ratings for topics. Someone seeing a huge collection of blogs can't easily tell what topics are even approachable and what topics are beyond their skill level.

            3. Most blogs are fairly high-level. Understandable considering beginner topics don't make for particularly interesting topics when sites like https://cp-algorithms.com/ exist. Maybe add a few links to useful external resources at the top.

Is it just me or is most of the catalog section seem to be aimed at LGMs? There's some CRAZY stuff in there

Low-intermediate topics usually don't make for interesting blogs as they've been covered extensively on external sites.

Maybe you are looking for catalog :D. It has useful materials thatI really liked.

Although, I wonder why it is called blog in the first place. I think since it is called blog, people can post stuff that are not necessarily educational. Something like “Top 5 graph problems I have ever solved” or like “I tricked a cyan into thinking that solving 1900+s problems everyday even though solving easier problems is good to decrease performance variance and skipping their uni lessons is good” are honestly blog materials too.

oi-wiki.org is a Chinese website like this, but it's not well maintained nowadays.
