I think difference between 1600 to 1800+ is too much to be in the same rank.

Interesting suggestion, but, I don't think that it would be a good idea. In my opinion, the current distribution is quite appropriate.

Div. 3 contests are pretty easy for Expert and above, whereas, Div. 1 contests are barely doable for Expert and below. Dividing 1600-1900 into two ranges would only distinguish between "Unstable Expert" and "Unstable Candidate Master", but these distinctions probably exist in every range/rank (maybe less so in International Master).

International Master also seems like a fair distinction as it's a mark about 99 percentile (reference) so it's a way of saying 99 but not yet Red. Doing that for 90 makes less sense to me. Not zero sense, but just, I'd like to push for Candidate Master, not International Expert.

Probably they can make two ranks and put the lower one into div3 and make the round a bit harder.

Or they can make 1400-1700 cyan and go on. Cause I feel like difference between 1400-1700 is quite small compared to difference between 1600-1900.

Personally, I really like this suggestion but at the same time, I also feel like making Div. 3 any harder would be somewhat unfair/demotivating to the newer contestants.

Don't you think even 1500+ peeps find div3 kinda easy? We don't solve 5 problems in div2. Why do they need to solve 6 problems in div3 then?

You don't need to solve every problems in div3. We solve 2 in div1. So, solving 2 in div3 should be ideal for you guys. If they make it harder, you guys still would be able to solve 2.

Why downvote though? I meant to say grey colored peeps should be able to solve 2 problems in div3 if he performs according to his rank, they currently solve 3 problems in div3 which means div3 is easier than it should be in my opinion.
Also, we're in upper bound of div2. Do you guys see us solving 5 problems in div2 frequently? If not then why we expect to see cyans solving 5 problems in div3? Why not make div3 harder such that cyans solve 4 problems in div3, pupils solve 3 and newbies solve 2? That's what I tried to mean.

Imo big range looks cool. Because there're alot of experts and becoming CM is something special for users who climbed to CM for a long time.

I felt like this too before becoming CM. When I became CM, the satisfaction didn't make any impact after 2 hours.

How about international expert 1800-1899 and if you are international expert if there is div 1 and div 2 contest at the same time you can do either?

I would really like to see how many blue colored users perticipate there. You gotta be brave af to be 1800 and still participate in div1 where you see a lot of CMs(also some of my friends) skip div1 and participate in div2 with their smurf.
Most of them would try just for once to see if it's fun in div1.

Here is the statistics for all groups(at 2021-11-06):

LGM (>=3000): 60 (1-60)

IGM (2400-2999): 624 (61-684)

IM (2300-2399): 310 (685-994)

Master (2100-2299): 1631 (995-2626)

CM (1900-2099): 2289 (2627-4915)

Expert (1600-1899): 7372 (4916-12287)

Specialist (1400-1599) 8312 (12288-20599)

Pupil (1200-1399) 12948 (20600-33547)

newbie(<1200) 72354 (33548-105901)

It seems that two thirds of the users are newbie. Firstly I thought it is because most of them just attend one or two contests and from the new rule, the rating they have are not their real rating, but when I clicked on 10 newbie users, I found I was wrong, most of them just participate dozens of contests, but they cannot even solve problem A.

Yes, their is a huge gap between expert and candidate master, the number of expert is larger than combination of candidate master, master, international master.... I have been expert in almost one year. But if we divide the expert, we should also divide newbie, since 2/3 of the participants are newbie.

Codeforces are just like real society, They are usually ignored in the contest because they cannot solve a single problem. When they speak, they have greater probability to be down voted. However, they form most of the parts.

How much skill gap there truely is between 900-1200? I don't really think you need to divide newbie. You can see difference between newbie and pupil is just mild. Quite same between pupil and cyan. Difference becomes much evident between cyan and expert or expert and candidate master. That's why I thought of dividing expert into two.

Dont divide expert into 2 regions, instead raise the bar for expert. Ig 1400-1700 should be specialist, 1700-1900 should be expert.

I don't think likewise. For most of the programmers (noobs like me), 1600 — 1800 rating works as a saturation point. Here I myself found myself striving hard to be a CM and failing miserably. But I think that's a hurdle a programmer must face and overcome for being something better.
