not only for the chrome extension but anything over internet that we use "IF YOU ARE NOT PAYING FOR THE PRODUCT THEN YOU ARE THE PRODUCT"
Well said.
Those with a pretty good amount of users and more positive reviews can be considered safe. You can't guarantee though. But you can check if a extension is malicious or not, see here. It uses this as mentioned in the post.
I am curious about why you decided to write this on cf lol.
Keep in mind that an extension not passing that test can be non-malicious, and equally an extension passing that test can be malicious.
Sorry, didn't know about that. So, that test is not useful at all?
Not that it's not useful completely, but you shouldn't really rely on it without at least skimming through the extension code.
