So there is a possibility that IOI 2020 will see honourable mentions. As such, I need to add it to IOI Statistics. Which means I need to pick a colour representing honourable mentions. I have a couple of ideas in mind, but really, they all seem kind of random to me.
So I decided, oh well, why not, let's ask for opinions here and see what happens. So if you have an opinion on what colour should be used, please post it here alongside the argumentation for it (even if it is silly).
That will increase my pool of colour choices from 3 to a ridiculous amount, which will hopefully make the whole colour selection even more random. Profit.
P.S. It has to be light enough to make it feasible to use as a background for black or dark blue text.

The issue here is that what essentially would be light brown would still be associated with bronze medal on quick sight.

Light blue is actually one of my favourites, but I just can't rationalize my preference to it compared to light green or some other light colours.
Light blue is sort of a silvery colour. If you didn't want to use greyscale for the silver medal, you'd usually add a bluish tint, right?
This is actually a very good point, thanks. Now that I think about it, I definitely seen a colour close to this used as a silver in some programming competition.

Yes, I also noticed that. It might look same on screen with bad sRGB coverage, so some more variations:
A note on “No medal”, it will change to “Participation” or something else and it’s only present in one place on the website (whereas HMs would be present a lot more), so I have no issues changing its colour to anything else.

There is actually a stronger reason for using pink, which is that this is what IMO website is using for HMs. But I would have to make it light enough by which point the similarities are a bit gone.
Light purple like #c4b5ff. This color is almost never used, looks good, and "according to contemporary surveys in Europe and the United States, purple is the color most often associated with royalty".

In Russian, you would usually call a 4th place medal the wooden medal. I wonder how many different names there are in different cultures...

Well, I agree that the shades of blue (like the ones proposed above) do associate with silver, but at least for me the cyan I have proposed doesn't associate with silver at all.
True, it's not that similar (still a variant of blue).
Well, we have at least a whole year to decide, GA has just voted down the proposal for honourable mentions at IOI 2020 (with the definition of HMs as next 20% after the bronze).
