cfmaster's blog

I need somebody to explain me how do people react to comments, blogs , ... in general ? my experiences say that usually announcing contests and blogs about algorithms receive positive feedback but blogs that ask a question receive negative feedback , and sometimes comments that have no problem (spam, spoiling problems , being impolite, ...) receive negative feedback ... can somebody tell me how does it work ? Well Im asking users with high contribution that what did they do ? And ofcourse you that are reading this blog right now what do you think ? Why do you downvote / upvote this blog? tell me in comments :)

it's random :>

It's bad if your question was already asked or you ask for help without doing some work yourself first like testing your solution. Providing a code without comments and explanation is also bad.

And I'm quite sure that this blog already appeared in some similar format and you should have googled it, so you will likely get downvoted :(

Same as other parts of the Internet. The better your comment is, the more likely it is to get upvoted and not downvoted. Better means in particular: makes logical sense, people agree with you, you said something meaningful/useful, you are red.

I think here are some general tips for not getting downvoted:

1) People don't really care about your English, people care much more about how is your blog structured. For example, this blog could have been stated as:

Paragraph 1: your situation (that you often get downvotes)

Paragraph 2: why does it happen so? Explanations?

Because right now every sentence in your blog ends with a question mark, it's even hard to read

2) It's weird but comments which make no sense aren't usually downvoted on CF. However, some comments appeared so many times that they became annoying. Top 5 examples:

  1. Is it rated?
  2. Hope for short statements
  3. First comment!
  4. You forgot to thank MikeMirzayanov!
  5. I wish I become blue after this contest!

3) People tend to downvote comments which have no relation to the community.

For example, people will most likely downvote "I wish I become blue after this contest". Like, why do you write this? Why do you share this with the world? Same about all other 4 comments from top above.

4) When you write blog asking some question: show at least some effort when doing it. If you ask about help in some problem, say that you have searched for it but haven't found, indicate the source of the problem and the constraints. If you ask some question in general, tell how you came to it, provide some examples. For example, here you could have linked to your last comment under announcement of round 616 and to similar comment which gathered upvotes, and then ask where is the difference.

5) People use downvote/upvote as disagree/agree button for some reason. Your comment "hope for SHORT STATEMENT problems and hope for strong pretests !" got -25 at the moment or writing this comment. It seems people may want LONG STATEMENT problems and hope for weak pretests, I don't know.

6) Actually people on CF are very weird and no set of rules can explain how they vote but maybe this was helpful
