Why does CodeForces switch between http and https?

Sometimes the url bar shows the connection is not secure while sometimes it shows it's secure (while writing this post it is showing not secure). Taking into account the recent DDOS events, what is the reason behind switching between http and https?

You can turn on "Enforce HTTPS" in Profile -> Change settings.

If not, then Codeforces is reachable via both HTTP and HTTPS, and it's up to you (and your browser) to choose a protocol. Many modern browsers tend to prefer HTTPS when available (in cache), like Firefox or Chrome.
