Massive Cheating

We did 6/10 with 0 WAs in First Half. Yet After seeing the leaderboard/Stats it's kind of sad state that I will get 400-500 rank. Even Similar Performance Last year for our team would have gave out almost around 100 rank, at worst case 200-300 but i am shocked.

For reference, Top team from our University did perform similar to present prelims last year and got top 10 in Prelims and this time even after doing 8/10, They are at rank 80s.

If u do not believe lemme show you the stats.

The question were really tough from G-H onwards. We had fun and we believed that ICPC prelims is a fair Competition among every teams. But when i reached home, I heard no Proctoring in Many Institutions due to which they got like all teams Aked. What are we heading towards in this country as a whole if this unfair system is going on, where in our Uni, Everyone, the staff followed strict rules and regulations. But in Some another university someone is using phone , using AI easily, Bragging on Linkedin and Giving contest from their home and Feeling Good. I do feel good we performed very well but the result was not expected. And Plagraism check and AI check you know is very hard to detect in this new Era where smart cheaters can easily fake even if the video is On. Some local Colleges team beating every top colleges team was not my in bucketlist this year.

Anyways, This maybe my Rant but I might not go to regionals due to this but yeah i can cope now. I would not stop my grind but I am tired of this Cheating Stuff. Hopefully ICPC board ban these colleges and make this only reliable competition fair and secure from next time.

The strategy for reporting cheating teams should be targeting and checking the top teams on the tentative lists who have solved 7-10 questions. We should first verify whether they have a background, achievements and CF ratings that support their standings on the leaderboard; otherwise, we should just report them.As the top ones are definitely 90% and more cheaters , we can eliminate most of them. This approach is the most reasonable one to eliminate cheaters, and it gives genuine teams a chance to advance to the regionals.

Let's make the leaderboard cheater free and icpc reasonably good experience for genuine teams.

UPD: Contest Inquiry. Hopefully this tones down significantly.

Should have prepped harder lmao, me and my team did 10 questions,we split the problemset amongst ourselves and just prepped on leetcode and hackerrank… they were just simple dsa questions just becuz u dont know how to code dont call us cheaters

Edit: due to people not getting the obvious sarcasm(or i thought) relating to the cit guy on linkedin doing 10 questions,i would like to clarify that i did not get 10 questions in icpc and will not br qualifying in regionals

Tf? Really? Where did you find these stats? No way so many teams solved these problems. Specially the 7th problem, which was around 1900+ easily in my opinion and a lot more people would have dropped off at that mark.

One of the major reasons that attracted unnecessary participants would be the ICPC Amritapuri ambassador thing, which awarded something for no. of participants registered from a college which caused surge in both no. of participants this year and cheaters.

Nice , I was able to do 5 with no WAs with my team , couldn't figure out F unfortunately.People said it was easier than E. Whatever be the case I don't think much will happen with 5 solves . Our college has teams with max 7 solves .

goodluck man. Yea max 7-8 or maybe even 9 for very good teams is justified. But everyone and their mom aking from some local college which never showed up in list in years. Leetcode type contest.

Bro don't worry, i guess it should be easy to figure out cheaters, first of all the teams with 7 or 7+ problems should be well known (previous regionalist/asia west/world finalist's) so out of first 350ish teams some 2 digit number should be remaining, now comes the 5 and 6 solvers icpc should ask for recordings from each centre and hopefully all iits and nits and tier-1-2 colleges should provide them that (i dont know about lower tier colleges i just hope they too can provide the exam hall recording), rest looking at the recoding and figuring out what the team is trying to discuss or maybe some other form of checking should reduce a lot of cheaters. There is one very important fact which i kind of have accepted in a country like INDIA where the population is too much, the exam conduction is too difficult to be 100% fare, I just hope a good enough percentage of cheaters are removed so that the fare and deserving teams gets the chance to participate in the regionals.

PS1: Our team also solved first 6 problems, it was difficult to guess how we performed because last 1 and half hour we didn't manage to solve any question, i still hope that we can manage to get into regionals.

PS2: Reflecting on my first line where i said "it should be easy to figure out cheaters", I am realizing that it wont be an easy task indeed but i hope icpc does its work with proficiency and integrity, hopefully final standing would be tolerable (i guess its the right word seeing the situation).

There were no videos recorded (even if it was recorded nothing could have happened)

Also people are not fools (neither AI) to write such a code that is easily detectable ...

our college had very good amount of proctoring with frequent invigilators round i thought everywhere the scene is same but when i came back to my room and got to know about cheating in other institutions i was disheartened by the fact that not even ICPC is safe now :(

It's hard to believe bastards are cheating now in ICPC, this is where pure talent and problem solving should matter and what do you gain by cheating? even if you somehow make it to the offline round, what then? You're just taking away someone else's deserved opportunity. and I personally feel that even in the AI era, everyone should experience problem-solving. The struggle of trying to solve a hard problem, thinking about it for hours, and still having no approach or getting a Wrong Answer at 2, don't ruin ICPC the way LeetCode has been ruined, because cheaters think a high rating means a good job. A high rating doesn't guarantee a job, current job market is too different. (i am also try to get back into competitive programming and try from where I left)

Hope the cheaters realize what they're doing. At least have some shame.

Honestly, holding a recontest at pre-allocated offline centers—kind of like IICPC (Codefest)—is the only real option left for ICPC India now.

Even if you ban the teams that solved 7+ problem just on the basis of their CF id or past track records . Still some cheaters will definitely slip through, and that’s would be completely unfair to the genuine teams who actually worked hard .

Think about it—in some cases, participants probably didn't even look away from their cameras. The invigilators/coach could have just handed them the direct code instead of the question paper, and they simply typed it out after altering it a bit (plagiarism can't detect) .

How are you even supposed to detect something like that?

How do u think they will conduct for 15k people? Also IICPC is exclusive to top colleges so less people, strict checking. Even in Delhi u just need IIITD and IITD venue for IICPC. For ICPC you need so much for many people. You are neglecting the recost, travelling of people, accomodation. Also IICPC uses same mechanism as ICPC. (SEB). Its the people with local University who have 0 integrity. Its issue on inviligation and proctoring people which will be very hard. I would say more efficient way is even ,if one team is caught which is not reported by uni, ICPC india should ban entire college forever so team count falls rapidly in leaderboard without any entertainment.

I hope the 20th october list comes good even with some noise, so we can safely think for our next step.

if T3 colleges are not able to invigilate, it is only fair that ICPC only be conducted on limited centres in tier 1/2 colleges. Just prevent colleges who were caught cheating this time from ever participating again, that would remove the logistical issues by reducing the number of participants. It was the responsibility of the college to prevent cheating, as mentioned in the undertaking.

    • ban the univ.
    • If the banned univ. want to participate in future prelims, they should attend it from a dedicated center.
    • IICPC codefest invigilation was not strict everywhere last year.

yes straight up ban the colleges where the cheating happened, and the teams that cheated should be banned from the college's training and placement cell as well.

I think the ICPC should demand accountability from all the colleges where centers allowed unfair means. It could be due to a lack of invigilation, colleges actively helping their students, or various other reasons.

just rent a massive barn in the middle of india and have them all travel there if they really want to compete. also take their phones and stuff so they can't cheat. take the top $$$15$$$ or $$$20$$$ teams and you got your regionals (or whatever comes next). administering it in $$$\ge 2$$$ places would almost certainly lead to cheating.

One question to all the high and mighty "10/10 solvers" in this comment section:

Why is this performance not reflected in JEE? Why not in Olympiads? Why not in your Exams? Why not in Placements? Why not in ICPC World Finals?

But when the exam is unproctored, you suddenly rise from the last to the first, and have the audacity to say your preparation was better?

Give me atleast one accolade you have in a legitimate competition or examination.

With all its resources I believe ICPC can adopt a strategy similar to IIT M B.S. OPPEs... They can set up actual(human) proctors to invigilate about 30 teams by asking them for their Workspace area over g-meet or some other platform.... SEB will prevent all VM based Cheating and the proctors will be there to handle all the anomalies that flaunt their Competitive prompting skills...Ofc this is not going to be easy but atleast it will prevent such a large scale massacre of their prestige

So my team did 5/10 qs in the prelims

It was suprise for us doing 5qs being only 1200 rated

(but in fact those 5 were like not that diffuclt just knowing basic STL and having good problem solving will get u through 5qs)

But the fact is that we are in growing phase and this is very possible, so i doubt restricting codeforces rating might flag us

But i can ensure ur college (IIT BHU) had a very strict procter so no chance of any kind of cheating

At end i feel ICPC should find a solution for it either having computer centers where teams can sit and solve instead of letting proctering on hands of random institues

I dont think your team would be restricted because of rating , the first 5 problems were doable so I think leeway would be given for teams like yours , its the newbies/pupils solving >7 problems that would be limited.

I guess it depends on how well they filter cheating. From a gut feeling, I feel 4 problems fast without penalty should be the cutoff in a world where there was no cheating at all. But yeah, I expect it's going to end up 5 problems with some reasonable penalty.
