Note: This is the first part of 'Guess the CF Elo,' a series heavily inspired by the famous chess YouTuber GothamChess. His youtube channel
Quick Intro
Most of you have probably heard of GothamChess and his famous "Guess the Elo" (GTE) series. Since the Codeforces and chess rating systems are quite similar, I decided to launch a similar series here. Idk how it will work out tho (it is my first blog after all), so feel free to leave your suggestions in the comments. Or just downvote (plis dont 😔)
Rules
In this blog, I will analyze some real coders performance (chosen by me), covering a few of their latest contests. I will try to not make it too obvious or too hard. To participate, just write your guess in the comments. The only rule is — it should be clear what exact number is your guess (if you want your guess to be counted). For example "I think this guy is 1158" will be counted as a valid guess, while "Its definitely somewhere from 1400 to 1500" wouldn't. The people who will get the closest will be mentioned in the next blog.
I think we can start now!
Contestant #1. Rating: ???
Contest #1
Let's take our contestant's performance at Order Capital Round 2 (Codeforces Round 1104, Div. 1 + Div. 2). The contestant delivered a high-level performance during the round by successfully solving five problems: A(800), B(1000), C(1000), D(1500), and E(2000), but failing F(2400) and the remaining harder problems. They solved A in ~10 minutes and already got AC on B in just under 30 minutes. Around 30 minutes later, the contestant solved C, and then D turned green just half an hour after that, solving the first 4 problems perfectly in about 1.5 hours. The troubles began at problem E, where it not only took them almost an hour to crack, but their first attempt also choked on a TLE. Luckily, just 5 minutes later, they made a successful recovery by optimizing their code and locking in a clean AC. This clean performance placed them in top 800 and gave them some juicy positive delta 😋.
Contest #2
I'm feeling generous, so I'll give you another contest. This time it's Codeforces Round 1108 (Div. 2). This contest was not as good for our protagonist, as he solved 3/6 problems: A (800), B (900), and C (1400), but failed D (1900). This time, he solved A in under 5 minutes, B in 15, and was already done with C before the 45-minute mark, with the only wrong submissions being on B (probably because he was trying to solve it ASAP). But then something went wrong, as he couldn't get an accepted solution on D, despite trying several times. Honestly, it kinda sucks when you solve a few problems very soon into the contest and then just get hit with a very hard problem which you can't solve and end up sitting there waiting for the end of the contest. But it is what it is, everybody has bad days. This performance is still decent for him, placing the contestant in the top 1600, resulting in a bit of negative delta.
So what do you think? I think the range is quite obvious, but remember: you need to guess the exact rating, which makes it a bit more challenging. GL!

1434+300 and 1434+100
"it should be clear what exact number is your guess (if you want your guess to be counted)" ...
1434+300=1734, 1434+100=1534
that's at least 2 numbers, your guess has to be 1. You understand that this is 1 person just in 2 different contests?
oh i thought this was 2 different people in 2 different contests. i will revise the guess to 1700

You are telling me that a 1900 player TLEd on div2C
1900 rated player TLE on div2C
This guy is 19 03 and he TLEd on div2C
19 19 03 and he TLEd on div2C
Didn't see the median trick
Could've solved in n^2
Didn't solve in n^2 could've solved in n^2
This man had median trick like 30 minutes in a row
Didn't even see it
Like when I see a problem about medians this is the first thing I think of.

My guess is 1904 after the last contest
✍📄
Rating is 1904. Including 2 contests is too much, you can find the exact user because of it.
Ig it is. Maybe i shouldnt tell which contest im describing. Also maybe if people are doing some research because of my blog its already a bit of a success
I already like this series
thanks! it was really hard to find a good way to analyze contestants performance that would feel like original GTE and actually gave hints about their rating, so I'm very glad you liked it :D
1900

Nope, but it counts as a guess :)
