It's me again, with another short summary of what happened this year in competitive programming. See the last year's summary here.
- The 2022 and 2023 ICPC World Finals were finally held on April 18, 2024, in Luxor, Egypt. Peking University (jiangly, lyx_cjz, yasugongshang) emerged as the champions of the 2022 edition, while the 2023 edition was won by the National Research University Higher School of Economics (I_love_kirill22, Ormlis, I_love_teraqqq).
- From June 19 to 23, the inaugural Universal Cup Summer Summit took place in Cancun, Mexico. Among the 11 teams invited onsite, USA1 (ecnerwala, tourist, ksun48) claimed victory. The finals will be held in Februrary 2025, in Dongguan, China.
- On July 12, the AtCoder World Finals were held in Tokyo, Japan. Representing the United States, ecnerwala secured the championship and a prize of ¥500,000.
- The 4th European Girls’ Olympiad in Informatics was hosted in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, from July 21 to 27. prvocislo from Slovakia won the competition for the second consecutive time and received her fourth gold medal.
- The 8th European Junior Olympiad in Informatics took place in Chișinău, Moldova, from August 16 to 22. rolandpetrean from Romania emerged as the winner. It was also announced that the next edition would be held in Azerbaijan.
- In late August, tourist surpassed the symbolic milestone of 4000 rating points on Codeforces, earning a new and special rank.
- The International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) 2024 was conducted from September 1 to 8 in Alexandria, Egypt. orzdevinwang from China clinched the championship. During the event, it was revealed that IOI 2027 would be hosted in Germany.
- On September 19, the 2024 ICPC World Finals took place in Astana, Kazakhstan. Peking University (xay5421, wasa855, LJC00118) secured another victory this year. However, no venue for the 2025 finals has been announced yet.
- On December 3, the Yandex Cup 2024 was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The algorithm track was won by Kapt, who took home a grand prize of ₽500,000.
- The final major event of the year, the Meta Hacker Cup 2024, was held online on December 7. TLE triumphed, earning the championship title and a $20,000 prize.
