Hello there! This question may be obvious to some, but I am wondering about the difference between virtual participation and just solving problems from the contest?

YES, it definitely will, why u ask? imagine you're preparing for an exam, and you've last year's questions wouldn't u try to solve last year's questions in an exam-like situation to make you ready for it?
Or imagine you're gonna participate in OI, at first, you'll start learning the techniques, basics etc then you'll go and solve random questions, then you'll try to solve the last year's OIs to get experience it's something like it first solve in problemset to learn, then do virtual to simulate it, then participate
