Hello Codeforces!
Today I had a problem with what my teacher said in school.
Our politics teacher, Mrs. Cai, told us something in class about the 'right' way to study for the Junior School Academic Examination that made us doubt.
She started telling us to give up all our hobbies: 'If anything other than studying takes up more than half an hour a day, you must give it up right away! There is nothing more important than the Exam.'She even said,'You have to give up even if you can't!Also,'You should have given it up when you were in Grade 6.’
Someone learnt to play the piano, and it usually took hours to practise, he learnt for a long time and really loved it.Mrs. Cai replied,'If you want to be Ronald, let you go!Do whatever you want! But you have to give up any hobby to waste your time studying as long as you're going to take the Exam.
If we do as what she said:
I take part in Codeforces contest for 2 hours.Give it up!
I learn linear alegebra for 3 hours.Give it up!!
My friend plays soccer for an hour.Give it up!!!
Another friend dances for 1.5 hours.Give it up!!!!
What a ridiculous talk!
There are counter-Examples everywhere! It's even hard to find a good student who doesn't have a hobby! As I know, every good student has a hobby! If you spend all your time studying and revising, you must be either stupid or mad! Everyone needs to relax, especially teenagers like us who are tired from studying!
Also, according to the Double-Reduction Policy in China, the main idea is to learn something more useful and take up your own hobby, instead of studying for the Exam.Mrs.Cai’s opinion is probably on the opposite side which tell us only study for the Exam!
We really don't disagree with her attitude to hobbies, so I decided to write this post to get some help: please tell us your answer to some of the following questions:
- What do you think of Mrs. Cai's talk?
- How can we strike a balance between study and hobby?
- What is the popular idea of teenagers' hobbies in your province (for Chinese) or your country (for foreigners)?
- What should we say to persuade Mrs. Cai?
Thank you for your help!
Disclaimer:
No personal attacks on anyone,I love my school and teachers,We just disagree with Mrs. Cai's opinion and would like to ask for your help.
Thank:
Thank you Mrs.Cai for telling us your opinion, thank you my classmates for supporting me,thank you DeepL for translating and helping me to write, and thank you all for reading and writing comments to help!
It's OK, most teacher's think that exam is the major meaning of life and nothing else, but that is wrong. Most of my teacher's here say that you need to study 9 hours a day for TWO YEARS so you don't fail the major exam, but that is not the case. Here most teenagers like to play music, and spend hours of training and practicing just to quit and start studying the exact same books and topics, EVERY DAY, but this process is so boring that most people hate their life and fail the exam anyways because of lack of motivation, wich your hobby gives you. And those people after the exam just become like robots, if give them a book to study they will memorize every single word of it, but they don't understand a single word of it. I like CP because I can forget about those boring topics in school books and join my friends doing the thing that really interests us, not the thing that we are forced to do. Tell your teacher that you're not robots, you can't study boring books for hours and memorize everything, you still need some free time to do what you want. Wish you pass all your exams successfully and become a LGM one day.
Many school teachers have a habit to throwing random bulls**t on students. You don't have to listen all of it.
Tbh if you want to be happy and successful, most of them aren't even qualified to guide you as they themselves aren't.
That said, they do have more life experience than the students because of the age gap but still they aren't perfect.
In middle school, my english teacher used to say that I won't be able to get a job because I refused to do the pointless homework given by her (Come on man, I am not going to waste hours writing an essay on trees).
Honestly, nothing she said, ever came true. I am doing pretty well having a job that I love doing. So just ignore the BS, they have to always do something to prove them look superior to you, otherwise, why would you listen to them right?
I think you are right. It is a joke that those who didn't succeed taught me how to succeed.Thank you very much for telling me!
I quitted playing outdoor games, watching movies and having fun 2 years because I was preparing for JEE(An engineering entrance exam for college).
I did everything I could and got 95 percentile which is fine but I lost connection and the bond which I once had with my friends. Though I and my friend had a reunion and I don't feel like I am alone. I was lucky they were still here.
All I am trying to say is, never give up on your hobbies and friends otherwise you might end up alone.
I didn't meant to write something so serious, but I was kinda alone for 2 whole years. So I thought to share it. Better enjoy your life as well mate.
Same with me man. Only difference is that I wasted 1 extra year beacause I took a drop.
I feel you bro.
I know this doesn't answer directly your questions, but I have a few things to write about that:
First, I've noticed many teachers trying to scare students with that kind of discourse: "The next year will be very hard, you will have to study very hard and you aren't going to have a life (and blah blah blah)". I don't know if this applies to China, but all the teachers I had who said things like that were exaggerating. If all successful students you know have at least one hobby, why must you quit yours for succeeding?
Also, schoolwork is a way of depriving students of their time and energy. Most things we learn at school won't be useful after taking the exams.
About the views regarding hobbies in my country: adults usually don't have problems with their kids having hobbies, but they insist in prioritizing schoolwork. However, I know about certain parents who deprived her daughter of most of her volleyball trainings because she wasn't getting straight A's. I also had a friend who was forced to play the piano because his mother wanted him "to be cult"
I hope my answer helps a little :)
However, it's "double reduction" not "double reproduction"
I have fixed it.Thanks.
If you're 8-13, and your main circle isn't frequently discussing:
And is instead discussing:
Then it's time to elevate your circle
I am 20 and is still discussing about Anime waifus with my friends and fighting over who is the best LOL

Well, I have a feeling that the teachers themselves are more afraid of the exam than the pupils.
On the other hand, if students do poorly in exams, the school director will punish the teacher (why you so poorly teach the pupils?). If the school shows itself poorly in the exams, then the officials will punish the school director (why your school has bad performance?), and the director will punish the teachers (why you poorly teach the pupils?).
Therefore, it is important for the teachers (and the school director) that the pupils do well in the exam. And they are ready to go to such lengths for this. And if pupils have good performance in the exam, then maybe officials can reward the teachers (and the school director).
This leads to various consequences; I remember that I myself taught only what was needed for the exam.
In addition, the school have to teach students according to the program approved by the Ministry of Education, but this is not the best way to prepare the pupils for the exam.
Of course, I heard that in China, the pupils spend a lot of time for studying, but I don't know what can be taught for such a long time... Do Chinese pupils really have to learn too much?
Auto comment: blog has been removed by the Chinese Government and the author has been detained.
Don't scare me,that's exactly what I am worried about.XD
It's true.My friend watched a lot of adult movies and the he heard the police knocking at his door.
However,it's an interesting thing, that we both has bad impression to the police in another country. In my classmates's opinion(and so do most of the Chinese people),FBI became a joke. They all see the FBI as stupid and evil robbers who always do something meaningless and silly. Now I have learnt it is similar in the US,too.I'm interested in what's the popular impressions to Chinese Government and Police?
Declaimer:The above thing about FBI is not my opinion,I love peace and respect everyone.I can't rate to Chinese Government, but after all,I love it a lot.
How can we form impressions on something we don't have any knowledge or information about? All the information about Chinese Government and Police is censored :)
you don't have freedom to say anything against ccp
Sure.But you can say.But!I can't agree.XD
Declaimer:I love China and CCP.
you have to write this otherwise you would be behind the bars
Thank you!But can you tell me how???
I saw in news , that chinese people have no right to freedom , they are living under the burden of their govt
Well,now I'm not able to say if I agree.XD
How to use spoiler?
I was just telling what my tv told me
