Hello everyone!
As we approach the Massachusetts Computer Science Olympiad Summer 2025, let's do a
MACSO 2024 RECAP
Massachusetts Computer Science Olympiad (MACSO) was founded by Mikhail Zhernevskii, Lucas Chen, and Tyler Sacharow, Brookline High School students, in 2024. The Massachusetts Computer Science Olympiad (MACSO) invited 278 participants from 182 schools in 40 countries to compete online.
The top 50 competitors from Massachusetts, Connecticut, Colorado, Pennsylvania, California, and even Canada came to Brookline to face off on October 19 at the Brookline Teen Center. Over three hours, students solved 10 coding problems. After careful review by guest judge Shruti Duhmak, a Google Engineer, the champion was announced: Mark Zhou from George School in Pennsylvania. Arthur Gilfanov from Fairview High School in Colorado secured second place, while Yancheng Zhao from Buckingham Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge finished third. MIT undergraduates Weiming Zhou, Thomas Liu, and Austin Geng solved the problems along with other students and kept the spirit of the competition.
Our online finalists showed solid results as well. Jaehyun Koo from MIT emerged as the winner; Julian Wu from Westview High School in California earned second place; and Yu Zheyuan from NUS High School of Math and Science in Singapore secured third place in the MACSO Online Open Finals.
The event wouldn't have happened without our generous sponsors and partners: Wolfram, JetBrains, Art of Problem Solving, American Computer Science League, Algoverse, Russian School of Mathematics, Brookline Teen Center, Brookline High School, Data Intensity, KTBYTE Computer Science Academy, HackClub SCOE, and Lexington Informatics Tournament.
