Out of curiosity, why are the standings in TCO rounds always hidden during contest?

Not sure what do you mean by hidden. But right now I can see the current standing (just like normal srm) of Round 1B and parallel round 1B.
To OP — As far as difficulty is concerned. Points of problems do reveal intended difficulty most of the time.

Hey, that is not the case, it is similar to any other contest and you should be able to see the standings. What are you using Web-Arena or the Java Applet?

Well that's a surprise :) I remember only some rounds (always TCO-related) have the standings hidden, and it's been the case for me for years.

I am participating in round 1B officially on the Web-Arena. On the parallel round I can still access full standings (and solutions) normally. On the official round I can view other participants by browsing through their rooms. It's just the full standings that's not available for me.

      Here's a picture

I think web arena has always had some problems. From what I remember, it also displays scores in wrong order if you are able to see them.

Why are TC contests so tedious to setup and participate in ? Or is there something I don't know. I tried once to set it up, and it was SO cumbersome. That's sad cz many of the problems I encountered were of a high quality.

366 participants...

From expected at least 750?

Maybe its time to enable C++17?

The java applet seems to be broken for me now (although it worked just hours earlier). I honestly can't remember how I managed to set it up the first time so I am having trouble debugging (ubuntu 18, java-11-openjdk with icedtea-netx).

I am seeing: Caused by: net.sourceforge.jnlp.LaunchException: Fatal: Application Error: Cannot grant permissions to unsigned jars. Application requested security permissions, but jars are not signed.

Is this a bug from topcoder's side? Like did they update their jars but forgot to sign it? Or did something in my system autoupdate and started causing these errors? Is there some way for me to clear cache?

I honestly can't tell whether the problem is with my openjdk version or with the applet. I had the exact same problem an hour before the round started. This link helped me. Some links won't work with wget. But just google them, they are readily available.
