Is the new logo just a temporary replacement or is it permanent? Anyone knows with confirmation?

Yeah. I like it too.
In my view,
Current one < old one < colorful current one.
This one is much better.
what is the meaning of this new logo
For me, it looks like it shows that a stick is laid at a corner formed by wall and floor. Due to gravity, the stick slips slowly.
This scene always appears in my past math or physic exam. In math, the middle point of the stick moves on a circle. In physic, given the mass of the stick and there is no fraction on every surface, we can calculate lots of physical quantities.
