Div 3 more popular than Div 2?

I was scrolling through the contest page on Codeforces and it seems that div 3 contests tend to get more registrants than div 2 contests. It seemed odd. Has anyone looked into this?

What exactly is the difference between Div 3 and Div 2? The help page only mentions Div 1 and 2.

    Div 3 is rated for people below 1600 ratings

    Div 2 is rated for people below 2100 ratings

    Also MikeMirzayanov I think the 'help' page on the codeforces bar alongside calendar needs updating, the FAQ from 10 years ago is fairly out of date.

      Yes they should Update it I guess they should navigate people to read it who created the account on Codeforces , I found out about it after a week .

Not surprising though. The number of greens and greys on cf are ever increasing and lately even starting div 2 problems have been quite novel, which is a good thing, but might discourage absolute beginners.

    I would have guessed there would be some people who prefer to do only div 3 instead of both div 3 and div 2 but this would be compensated by the blues and purples in div 2.

Always known trick. Division 3 inflated so, people who are eligible for Div 3 usually are scared to join Div 2 so they join Div 3. Those people, the moment they reach expert, they usually decrease in rating again and usually keep stuck for a while in that due to the difference in inflation between Div 2 and Div 3.
