I'm a recent college graduate, and I'm new to competitive programming.
I've been having fun solving problems from previous contests, and I'm ready to start registering for contests.
However, as an American, the majority of contests start at 8 — 11 AM for me. This would normally be a fine time, but they interfere with my work schedule.
I understand this is a Russian website and the majority of users here are non-American. However, this is my favorite site for competitive programming, so I'd like to work around this issue.
I can still register for contests on the weekends, and thankfully there seems to be contest(s) most weekends.
I guess unless something changes, this will have to be enough :)
Remember this "No one owes you anything". To fit to 8AM for you it may disrupt the timing for people of other countries and then thousands of similar blogs. In short. Get used to it or find other site.

To an extent, I agree.
I understand that Codeforces has multiple contests a week, so spreading them out over weekdays makes sense. And then given that you have to pick a time, picking a time that works well in Russia on weekdays makes sense as well.
Occasionally there are weeks where there are no/few weekend contests, though, or Div1/Global rounds on weekdays. I think in those weeks it would be good to shift the contests (especially Div1/Global) to the weekend not just for Americans, but so that everyone worldwide can participate.
I think especially for Div1 rounds, we can keep the current time as CF is a Russian website, but putting them on weekends would be really nice since they only occur rarely.
Unfortunately weekends also vary from country to country. Not every country has weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
While that's true, do any countries have weekend on Wednesday? And I believe weekends vary less than time zones, so let's not let perfect be the enemy of good.
Create your own contests with your preferred time :)
Contest may be held like virtual ones. Like you can access contest only one time throughout the day with your prefered time.

Although is that really a bad thing? Personally I usually find someone explaining something with pictures and a video easier to understand than math-dense text.
Edit: I misinterpreted the joke. I have never posted solutions to a contest before that contest had ended for everyone, and am strongly against cheating in any way. Originally I thought this was parodying the recent rise in legitimate youtube editorials produced after the contest had finished.
I was talking about editorials published on youtube during the contest. Is it a good thing?
These tags were pointing towards recent rise in cheating in codechef longs. Same would happen if you allow 2 hr window in 24 hrs for a codeforces contest.

Americans are such a privileged peaple, compared to other countries citizens. Now you want to make contests for American timezone? This is our world, not Americans' world.
I don't think that the spirit of this website is to punish the Americans for their excessive consumption by making sure they can't consume contests at least :p
Fair enough, but those numbers become very reasonable you use a more meaningful denominator than population. Notably the US also leads the rest of the world in production. They produce roughly one quarter of the world's GDP.
As far as academia goes, as of the latest data I can find, the US produces ~ 49% of all academic papers and 62.8% of all academic papers in the top 1%.
The US is also the country with the second most LGMs in the top 20 CF users at the moment, after China, sorting by flag on the top rated page.
Haha, how did you pick the top 20 threshold instead of all 31 active LGMs?
Mostly arbitrarily, but it breaks ties pretty well in hindsight. I think the US would still be tied for 2nd if you include all 31, but of the 3 that are from the US, they are higher up on average.

Makes sense. I'm only able to be orange on Codeforces because I consume disproportionately more paper and copper, as an American.

I think we have the worse time zone than you.... (I'm in China). We have to stay up to mid-night to participate in contests....
That is my favorite time to be awake...
Also you are nearly sure to have no conflicts at that time, I do not see how you can make that argument.
