So recently I've been thinking, would a brilliant mathematician do extremely well in cp? Hypothetically speaking, if Terence Tao started learning data structures and algorithms for a month and then started grinding contests on Codeforces, would he make LGM in a couple months and maybe even secure a comfortable #1 place on top rating? Personally, I genuinely believe it might be possible but that might be due to my naivety and lack of experience. I am curious what you guys think.

Definitely he would be able to become an LGM comfortably, but I don't think comfortable rank 1 would be anywhere even close to being easy.
Wait why not though? I'd imagine he has really strong intuition and ability to learn topics pretty fast. And also he's been doing problem solving for nearly his entire life.
That's why I said LGM for sure, but to be ranked 1 consistently is going to be hard, because at the top its always uncertain ranking. Though, I also believe he will be ranked 1 for many times.
Especially, other very top LGMs themselves are crazy problem solvers. He will compete with them on equal terms, though it may take time to get used to CP, like how other LGMs became LGM.

The way you effortlessly manipulate equations and strike fear into the eyes of graduate students. Your silky smooth problem-solving techniques, and that gorgeous mathematical intuition. I would do anything for you. I wish it were possible to freeze time so I would never have to watch you stop publishing papers.
You had a rough childhood being absurdly smarter than every human alive, but you never gave up hope. You are even amazing off the chalkboard, you're a great teacher and mentor, sometimes I even call you professor. I forever dread and weep, thinking of the day you will one day stop solving millennium-level problems. I would sacrifice my own AMC score if it were the only thing that could put a smile on your beautiful face.
You have given me so much joy, and intellectual heartbreak over the years. I remember when I first tried reading one of your blog posts and it's like my brain got broken into a million pieces. But a tear still fell from my right eye when I finally understood one paragraph, because deep down, my glorious king deserved it.
I just wanted to understand analysis. Then alas, you uploaded another beautifully written exposition and I rejoiced. Real analysis was a hard year for us baby, but then you dropped another incomprehensibly elegant proof and made history happen. You came back from a 3-1 inequality and I couldn't believe it. The last sentence is not really correct. I, whose main job is exposing cheaters, only report them when I have clear evidences.

He likely would never be top 1. He is brilliant perhaps one of the greatest to live but so are the people who do cp. I’m sure he could make lgm given enough effort. One thing however is he’s getting old and only has so much time to be in peak of mental state. And also CP is not something where you can sit around and ponder a question and eventually wait for something to pop out (skills that research rewards). In thinking fast, he hasn’t showed enough competence to be number one in the world. In competitive math and at imo, something more similar in nature to cp, it took him 3 years to get from bronze to gold. BY any other person’s standards this is incredible and only at 13 however when we compare him to tourist, a person doing cp his whole life, it took him a mere year to get from silver to gold at ioi. Also Terrence is starting awfully late to get good and likely won’t be able to best the progedies who started in like 5th grade, the human mind simply doesn’t work to that extent even someone as great as Tao. Also i think you underestimate how brilliant the people who have held a top 1 spot are. Many of them are nearly as brilliant or possibly more and have decade+ of experience behind them, I find it unlikely Tao could overcome that with a tiny bit more raw intelligence and his math expertise. Nevertheless he would be phenomenal at it and def could hit lgm at some point GIVEN enough effort
