I don't know why this is like this, is there any particular reason or no one pointed out this yet.
I don't want to spoil problems with tags every time, I only want to see them if I'm stuck and use them as hints.
But it is so inconvenient to go to settings or go to the "all problems" page and change the setting there just for a single problem.

Why there is no expand button in the UI, just like how we have in other parts of the site.
It's just a small change, but a much-needed one.
By default problem tags should always be collapsed, so that you can use them like hints.

That’s because you’re not supposed to see the tags, and you have to struggle a bit to get the hint.

cout cut out the BS it’s just not user-friendly to open a new tab and change the settings again and again. I’m not saying you should remove the settings option entirely, but why not make it a simple dropdown like LeetCode and many other platforms do?

also we need an option to see the problem rating on the page itself. sometimes i see a link to a problem somewhere and want a general measure of its difficulty aside from its letter and division. it's on the problemset page even if tags are hidden, why not on the problem page?

Good point, if someone has tags hidden they won't be able to see the problem rating and can't have an idea if the problem is worth trying. Even more hassle if they had open the problem through contest page, in which case they would then have to search the same problem by problemId or something on problem set page.

I use CF Getrating extension for chrome. It shows you the problem rating by default, optionally you can click "Show All Tags" if you are stuck
