Arpa's blog

You might wonder: what kind of popular or controversial topic gets 175 comments?

The answer:

You are right! Codeforces edu section — Community Course! Most of the comments are "Still empty" :) But the good news is, this is not the case anymore!

I've just added the first set of tutorials on the RMQ Problem, which covers these three topics:

  • Sparse Table
  • SQRT Decomposition
  • Disjoint Sparse Table

It's just a starting point, but hopefully, it will encourage others to contribute. Let's work together to build a high-quality collection of competitive programming materials! Check out a related comment below.

Let me know if you have any comments on the tutorials, which will help future writers as well.

    competative Automation by AI

Already in 2025, AI can solve LeetCode/competitive programming problems.

By 2030, AI coding assistants will handle 80–90% of implementation.

Meaning: the “raw coding” signal that IOI tests may not feel as rare.

Shift from Coding Speed → System Design

With that perspective many other fields such as mathematics, classical physics, etc.. will also be AI dominated and should be abandoned. That's because in many cases competitive programming is not even about how practical our codes are but about improving our core problem solving skills. the many people you see "doing system design or AI development" are the same competitive programmers who started with classical programming.

means is it worth it investing our time in competative programing, see ai and ml is on top now a days, back in 2020 everyone was doing cp but now everyone is doing ai and ml , so in this case should we invest our 3 to 4 years in cp or AI and ML, please share your taughts, see phyical ai is coming after this

Think about chess. Not even every human together can beat stockfish or at least secure a draw. But has people stopped playing chess? No, that's because they play chess for the fun of it.

CP is the same; most people do CP for the fun of it. Yes, the invention of AI effects the people who want to get a job by getting a good rank here, not the people who want to have fun by doing CP.

but see if but see why would not someone invests time in something that will make them someone valuable, its my opinion may be i am wrong what do you think instead of wasting countless hours on doing cp

Why do some people spend countless hours (and money) study chess, which is completely useless for work — Are they crazy?

Perhaps your answer is yes. If so, I will say that perhaps CP is not for you — go to learn how to use AI, not wasting your time on something you don't understand.

Hey! How does the contribution work there? For example, you did the RMQ section and if someone wants to do the RSQ section -- what should they do? I assume, write some articles on prefix sums, BIT etc; also find some problems on CF for the practice. Should there be a video? Whom to contact to add it to the EDU section? And how to ensure no one is contributing to the same non-existing section at the same time?

A genuine question as the post has a call for action but the action itself is a bit unclear.

Arpa could you please add this information to the blog itself? I feel it might be difficult for others to find it buried in the comments.

And yes, thank you for the initiative :)

Thanks a lot for starting this! Sparse Table and SQRT Decomposition were always kinda confusing for me, and the examples here really help. I liked how you showed different ways to do RMQ. Maybe you could add a bit about typical use-cases like LCA or static range queries, that would help beginners even more. Excited to see the next tutorials!
