Hey Codeforces community!

You might want to grab your virtual coffee and brace yourselves because the world of competitive programming just got a whole lot more interesting!

Remember all those discussions about AI eventually conquering coding challenges? Well, it looks like that future might be closer than we thought. A recent breakthrough from OpenAI is turning heads, and for good reason.

Take a look at this:

The image speaks volumes, showcasing OpenAI's models tackling not just competition math problems (like AIME) with incredible accuracy, but also diving headfirst into the complex world of Codeforces competition code!

And the results? Let's just say they're bordering on legendary. The data suggests these models are achieving performance levels that could rival even grandmasters! We're talking about AI that can not only understand intricate coding problems but also generate solutions with remarkable precision.

What does this mean for us?

This isn't about robots taking our virtual crowns (yet!). Instead, it opens up a whole new realm of possibilities:

  • Smarter Tools: Imagine the potential for AI-powered tools that can help us debug, optimize, and even learn new coding techniques.
  • Pushing the Limits: This breakthrough could inspire us to create even more challenging and innovative problems for future competitions.
  • A New Era of Learning: AI could become a powerful learning companion, helping aspiring competitive programmers hone their skills.

Of course, there are plenty of questions to ponder. How will this technology evolve? What are the ethical implications? And most importantly, can we still claim bragging rights when we finally solve that elusive Div 1 problem?

Let's discuss in the comments below! What are your thoughts on this groundbreaking achievement from OpenAI? Are you excited, apprehensive, or somewhere in between? Share your opinions and let's explore this new frontier of competitive programming together!

Now that we will have a bunch of people having GM performance cheating maybe the community will finally care about this. I have the impression that nobody takes action because current cheating does not affect people master and up, so they couldn't care less for we peasants at low ranks

AI is now 184th in all of CF?

I'm curious to see how o3-pro ends up doing, tried o4-mini-low on 2 problems (USACO Election Queries and The Best Lineup) and it still couldn't solve it, but I feel like the more powerful reasoning model, plus the ability for it to debug its code more easy with terminal access could help it to a significant degree.

The models mostly suck and I believe it's just hype for now. CP is going no where until the systems are sentient.

This isn't true, o3-mini can AK div3s and div4s and achieve really good performance in higher divisions. Additionally, and this part could 100% be hype, but OpenAI's internal model is supposedly top-50 on CF according to their arxiv paper.

Why do you think that is so? These models aren't even thinking then how are they able to come up with solutions. Most probably because the solution exist. If not aren't they already sentient? I mean they just pretend to reason but they actually don't.

In that case Physics and Math would be in graves along with CP which I don't believe the case is. I am no expert in Deep learning do enlighten me.

Even if these models aren't actually thinking, they still demonstrate impressive CP ability, even on ad-hoc problems which aren't standard (though to be fair, they aren't super great at them, ad-hoc problems are harder for the model to solve than more standard problems). I wouldn't go as far as to call them sentient though.

I also don't have a large enough insight in order to determine the impact the AI can have on the other fields mentioned, so I can't really comment on that. That being said, at least on USAMO, the only AI to solve a full problem (not including o3 full and o4-mini, since those weren't released when this was done) was Gemini (and grok surprisingly, though it got it once out of 4 shots), and that's more proof based (which I'd presume is more like math than CP is to computer science)
