I want to share a funny story.
Purely out of curiosity I wanted to see what message Codeforces gave in trying to change the handle to one already in use...but I made a typo and now I'll have MatteoArcari handle for a year. I guess I'll have to use only Rust for the next year's contests :)

I guess you can change handle only once, is it like you can change only once in a year and next year you can again change if you have changed this year?
Yes, I can change it again next year but I promised a friend of mine that I will change it only if in the meantime I will have achieved the International Master title.

Maybe if I tell you my saddest story ever, it should get you out of your sad situation.
A couple of months ago, I decided to change my handle to "ALKHAIER" on Codeforces. After several attempts to change my handle, I eventually gave up. However, later on, I discovered that I could only change it at the beginning of the new year, so I decided to wait until then, but I was worried that someone else might take the handle before I had the chance to change it.
After a lot of thinking, I came up with an idea. I decided to create a new account on Codeforces and set the handle "ALKHAIER" on it. This way, no one else would be able to take the handle before me.
So, today, I changed the handle on my new account to a random name. Then, I logged into my main account (this one) to change my handle to "ALKHAIER." But when I tried, it said it was "not allowed" because the handle had been used before on another account (and that other account was mine, which I had changed to a different name
in the end, I had no choice but to settle for "ALKHAIER1" instead. I'm really sad about it :(
