Not exactly. Actually,only OIers in China do so,and they often don't study curriculums,but to use it to do coding instead.

They have been training intensively since the age of 12. The schools would pick all potential kids and teach them advanced concepts very early. They usually spend a great deal of time doing homework (like 10+ hours daily for kids who aimed to compete in later years). Sad but true, to achieve what they have now, most of them sacrificed their childhood doing homework.

My "happiness" until I finished high school was maybe $$$3$$$ out of $$$10$$$, for various reasons: I had zero freedom, I was doing something I didn't like the whole day, I was getting bad results at competitions, and I felt I was "wasting" all my talent. Now I think my happiness is around $$$8$$$ out of $$$10$$$. Maybe "sacrificing my childhood" by training $$$10+$$$ hours daily would correspond to $$$4$$$ out of $$$10$$$.

I live next to China, I have a lot of Chinese friends as well. They always complain to me about the amount of homework they have to deal with every day. A usual student typically spends 5 — 7 hours at school each day, they have to train really hard to get into college since it is very competitive (even for average students). Their parents are also very harsh on them, they force their kids to learn and do homework constantly, and most of them would be sent to extra classes till night. They both have the talent and also work very hard (or too hard), no surprise for the result they've got. If you are talented and you were born in China, chances are you could be one of those legendary kids.
Same Scenario in India and many asian countries
The only difference is, in India, they would pick the least optimal method, and force the students to study the same curriculum until Highschool.
Even the next 2-3 years are wasted pursuing a very generic learning path(PCM or PCB for STEM aspirants) which is almost 0 help for someone who wants to pursue programming.
I really hate the fact that I have wasted and many others waste years mugging up the periodic table and learning the exceptions in inorganic chemistry in order to get into a decent college where we can pursue CS-related courses which have 0 relation to 90% of the JEE syllabus.

In China there are some policies to support ones participating in CP, such as giving us bonus scores on our entrance exam to university if we are doing well, therefore this is a great motivation for Chinese kids to learn CP.

There are 5 kinds of "Discipline Competition" for senior high school student in China -- maths, physics, chemistry, biology and OI. If you awarded in national competitions in China, you will be recommend for admission to a great university like PKU and THU.
That's why Chinese students begin to learn CP at the age of 12 or 13, and some of them could be "legend" like one of my friends BreakPlay.

*800.I lived in China for many years and I can confirm this is true. In particular, when I was in China (about 10 years ago), even high school students not doing competitions were required to study from (roughly) 7AM to 9PM for 3 consecutive years just for the college entrance exam.
12? Back in my home town, 12 is when you compile your contest results into a CV in order to apply for NFLS (1% acceptance rate in 1999...)

There are certainly schools where CP is a school culture, especially among the mathematics circles. I can imagine it being a very common culture in many parts of China.
As a Chinese student, I don't think Coding becomes a culture, at least in my city. In China, students always study deeply early, which means many students perform really well in their sphere.

yes，there are so many Chinese books about CP， not translated into other languages and also a training site https://www.luogu.com.cn/ The translation is bad so it is really hard to read if you are not Chinese also the Chinese kids practice alot
The training site includes almost everything， including lists of problems using a particular module and coaching. They go through multiple contests, from only including the local neighborhood to the whole of china.
What are some books that Chinese ppl read in order to improve at CP? Also, do they do problems on training sites after they completed a book or read books as they practice?

not to all Indians but actually, Indian kids are the complete opposite they usually don't even prove the problem they code and get WA most of the time, BTW most of the cheaters in CF are Indian (not offensive to Indians who are not like this)
There might be some bias where Indians cheat (in the words of my cousin from India: If it's not illegal it's okay), but there are just so many Indian CPers too that there are naturally going to be more cheaters from India.
Clarification: I do not support the words of my cousin, that was just to prove a point.
The reason most Indians cheat is that the society here(and the parents) mostly are obsessed with the numerical quantification of the results, i.e. the marks on the result card, and not the actual learning.
Even though their intention might be to attain a good career, somewhere along the way, they forget what actually matters, and the same translates to just somehow getting high ratings, no matter the way.
I have literally seen parents appreciating it when their child tells them that they were able to solve some problem in some random school exam by outsmarting the invigilator. Most of them just care about the marks!!!

Yes, you're right. The thing is, there is always someone talented and needing less time to have a rest. In a school, there are generally many students learning it at first. As you say, learning too hard is not necessarily good, but the students who are the most talented or who can suffer the great pain when studying will be instructed by better teachers. Sometimes they even interrupt other subjects and only study CP day and night for the (most important) competition. These students are "who are legend".
Meanwhile, the other students who has "severely burned out" stop learning it or spend less time learning it. They only see CP as a hobby and they are the majority.

I am a Chinese kid. In China, if someone don't get first prize of program design level certification, he will no longer learn CP. Therefore, a school generally has many students studying CP, and every school always has strong students.
That is to say, China has an advantage in population.
Besides, many schools give their students a lot of exercises in order to make their students rank higher in their provinces. It's worth noting that students who rank high in the current province can participate in the national finals. In China, if you win a medal in the national final, you can reduce the difficulty of going to college.

A factor is that Chinese kids who get Au or Ag in NOI(Chinese National Olympiad in Informatics) can get greater advantages than others in "National College Entrance Examination".

Depends on how you define legend.
If you count legends as something like Codeforces LGM, then it is extra hours, full-time training, staying up late, that sort of thing. A large percentage of them are not perfectly healthy — Anxiety, depression, sleeping disorder, obesity, etc. Thus I don't actively advice anyone to imitate them. (But if you think it's worth it, I won't try to stop you.)
If you mean lower levels, then it can be attributed to the large population and the low starting age. Starting before high school certainly gives off some advantage. But this advantage is not decisive and is possible to compensate with talent or practice.
Maybe you are right. But as I have seen tourist in the screen, he doesn't seem to be in bad health. Maybe he is an exception.

In order to enter the top universities in China, we students must practise hard. And the number of excellent students is becoming larger and larger, but the number of top universities can hardly increase, so we must train more harder.
Another reason is the problems in CNOI are harder and harder these years in order to choose little top students from many excellent students. I think CNOI is much harder than IOI.
And there are many CPers of high levels around us. We can learn from them to become stronger.
Another reason is that you won't know your score during the contest in most of CNOI contests. If you are not of high levels, there's a risk that you may think your score is passable after a contest but get a low score at last because of little mistakes in an important contest. A friend of mine, who is of medium levels, just got 76 points in NOIP because the sample tests are weak. Another friend of mine, who is of high levels, got a passable score although he lost 130 points because he solved all the problems except the last problem and got a high score on the last problem. It pushes us to work hard.
