Dear MikeMirzayanov,
This is to inform you that the timings of Codeforces Round #793 (Div. 2) conflict with the final matchday of The Premier League. To give you some context, The Premier League is a worldwide televised event showcasing the top division of English football, and the final matchday is set to conclude one of the most enthralling seasons ever. We've got the title, top 4, Europa League qualification , and relegation battle on the line. I wouldn't bother making a blog post about rescheduling a Codeforces event which is equally as important, if not for this momentous occasion. To back this proposition, I'd like to highlight the fact that a fair share of the Codeforces community is an avid fan of the sport. I suppose I wouldn't be wrong in saying that the community would appreciate the rescheduling of CF#793. Let me know what you think about this!
❤️
...this isn't the 2011/12 season. Man city's definitely going to win.
Again not exciting — Tottenham has to lose for arsenal to be top 4
Nobody watches Europa League lol
The exciting relegation match (Everton's one) is already over
I'm a Manchester United Fan (sad Face) and one of the testers as well so it does not even matters to me.
Same here smh. Holding on to 6th is tough these days... sigh
Another reason is that Google KickStart 2022 Round C is happening ~3.5 hours before the CF 793 contest. It is hard to immediately jump onto CF 793 after KickStart.
Would it be okay if the contest gets preponed to Saturday?
No thanks. I will try to join in its original time setting.
Oh, I'm sorry. I wasn't asking for your personal preference. What I meant was that if the contest gets preponed to Saturday, does it coincide with contests across different platforms like AtCoder, TopCoder, and Codechef?
No other contests overlapped, except with this unofficial one: https://codeforces.me/blog/entry/102905
Rather set the priority:3
I support this petition. I have to take my dog on a walk that day and he gets mad if I don't take him for a walk. This can be life threatening for me also since he's 5 times my size and 10 times more deadly.
the fuck is wrong with this comment section
I think asking for a rescheduling of a contest only makes sense at least a week before it (preferably earlier), and contests should only be postponed if they clash with another major related events (cp events, not football or other stuff), because its the only thing that makes sense in the context of the website.
About the time: cf rounds take a lot of time to prepare and the people that the round depends on decided on the time that's most appropriate. changing it, especially in such a short notice, makes no sense
About the reason: cf is a cp platform, although football is very important to a lot of people (I myself like watching from time to time), taking it into consideration doesn't make sense however grand the specific event may be. We wouldn't change the time of a contest because of some country's election, or an important race in the Olympics, or even the Imo, these events are important, but not for codeforces as a platform, if people prefer them, they can just wait to the next round
sorry for the long comment, it's more about the trend of people asking for contest rescheduling, so sorry if it seems excessive :)
Oh, don't worry, your comment was more definitive than excessive. I suppose problem-setting and testing can take quite a while, and rescheduling at such a short notice would certainly be cumbersome for those involved. However, the sole motivation behind the blog was how the sport transcends borders and might affect a considerable percentage of the contestants. Fanatics can choose to sit this one out, as you mentioned.
I suppose if the coordinators see that events like this greatly affects participation* they can take them into consideration in following rounds, but my point is that that's entirely up to them, and we don't know what other constraints (hehe that's relevant) they have to consider.
There's nothing bad with skipping 1 contest :)
